Abandonment of a domestic pet  duck or goose is aganst the law. It is a misdemeanor and a very cruel act. Many people adopt ducklings  and goslings as a novelty in the spring and easter times soon to find out that they require 10-15 years of care, and that they may quack too loudly and need too much clean up to continue caring for. These helpless creatures should never be abandoned in the wild as they normally can not fly very high if at all because of genetic breeding and are subject to whatever conditions are that they are left behind in. They become emaciated, weak and susceptible to predator attacks and mailicious intent, along with discarded fishing lines, sinkers, hooks and the like. Many people feed moldy bread which is unhelpful and can cause fatal fungus infections. They are forced many times to drink runoff water from sewers with high bacterial counts and get bumble foot from walking on cement and hard surfaces.
Abandoning a poor helpless duck or goose also affects the eco balance system and migration and breeding of wildlife species. These poor sweet creatures deserve nice homes where they are kept and housed and permanent homes just like a dog or cat. They need to be fed daily and kept on soft surfaces, and housed in safe enclosures at night. They like being cared for and will give you years of enjoyment and eggs. So think again if you want to adopt a cute little duckling or gosling. Think 10-15 years of duckdom and realize that is the responsible thing to do and perhaps you will realize it may not be the smartest decision.Toy ducks and stuffed plush ducks may be a better choice for your children.
